Baytown history:
Beginning around 1822, the area was first known as Goose Creek. By the early 1900's, another community has been built on the east side of Goose Creek. It was known as Pelly. East Baytown was founded in the early 1920's. Since East Baytown was actually west of Goose Creek, the "east" was dropped leaving the town to be known as Baytown. During the late 1940's, discussion began about consolidating all three communities into one. Baytown was resistant to the idea, but finally agreed in 1947. The resulting community of Baytown was founded 24 January 1948
