Location
Kingwood is located in northeast Houston, just four miles north of historic Humble, Texas on U.S. Highway 59 north.
The completion of major improvements along Hwy. 59 have made Kingwood one of the most accessible master-planned communities in the Houston area. Kingwood, featuring Metro Park & Ride Service, offers easy access to Bush Intercontinental Airport, the Greenspoint Business Center, the Greenway Plaza area and downtown Houston.
West Lake Houston Parkway, which runs through Kingwood, gives residents direct access to Beltway 8, and other recent road improvements such as the expansion of Northpark Drive and the opening of Rockcreek Drive, enhance commute times for residents in new villages such as Oakhurst at Kingwood.

History
Kingwood, a project of the Friendswood Development Company, an Exxon subsidiary, and King Ranch, is a suburban residential community on a 14,000-acre tract on the East Fork of the San Jacinto River in extreme northeastern Harris County. Plans for the community included greenbelts, shopping centers, schools, churches, recreational facilities, riding and hiking trails, and a boat ramp with access to Lake Houston. The Kingwood schools are part of the Humble school district. The population grew from fifty in 1986 to 19,443 by 1990, when the community had 204 businesses. The population in 1992 was 37,397. By 2000 Kingwood had been annexed by the city of Houston.
